It’s August. I feel like it’s 2022. The time since this pandemic started and now seems like a lifetime.

I don’t know about all of you. But, I am drained!

I sat down to write my blog this month but, my heart and mind are so heavy. The thought of the pandemic (when will this end), racial unrest (how do I help my kids feel safe in such a tumultuous time) and how to take care of my own mental and physical health. The kids will be starting school and how will we handle the challenges of hybrid learning. Economically; having lost my job I have concerns about my own future.

So I decided to make it light this month.

My blog nickname is Soulful Wonder Chef. So I figured I would share a few recipes this month with you all.

This is a cheat cake that’s made from a box. Add a few drops of green food color and a handful of chopped pistachios.

I’m also sharing a recipe for Moqueca; an elaborate Brazilian fish stew. I used cod fish and haddock.

I spent August trying to get back to real life. I love to go out and have fun with friends and family.

I want to share two new spots we tried.

Donjito; a Nuevo Latina cuisine spot in Mamaroneck, N. Y. They have a gorgeous backyard patio. The drinks are flowing, the music is playing and the food is diverse and delicious.
They take cash or card. They have to-go, eat-in and curbside pick-up.
They are located at: 122 Mamaroneck Avenue, Mamaroneck, N.Y. 10543. Phone : 914-902-5486 Web: WWW.DONJITO.COM

The Bronx Brewery; located in the Bronx, N. Y. . They carry to-go beer. They have a backyard hang out located in the Port Morris section of the Bronx. They have a food truck in their backyard hangout called Empanology. They take cash or card.
You can pre-order beer to go from the brewery. They are located at: 856 E. 136th Street, Bronx, NY 10454.  Phone: 1-718-402-1000

My hope is that you can find some fun in the time that we have left this summer.                      Hopefully, everyone has a smooth transition back to school whatever that will look like whether hybrid, virtual, home school, remote learning or whatever other definition one has for what September 2020 will look like.

I know that masks are a huge debate as part of this return to reality. Regardless, we do have to have our kids masked up for the school year. I am including a link to a mask company. They are located in California. Everything is made in house in the U.S.A. and shipped quickly. They are great quality and they have many designs. They can also make custom masks if you reach out to them. Cara is a former New Yorker and friend I have included the link below.
